The title of this post is the title of a new music that I just finished. It was diplomatted (I’m trying to find the proper term to describe the process of musical production. Created doesn’t feel right, because the music didn’t come from thin air. Made is not robust enough, et cetera) for Sweetleaf teahouse in LIC, Queens as a soundtrack to their establishment.

The music is divided into ten parts, with an additional eleventh part that serves as the ‘main theme’. The main theme is the original tempo at which the drums were recorded. The drums served as the basis of the composition, and I must extend my utmost gratitude to Chris Tabron, and Alex for tracking the drums for me. Each of the ten parts is a slowed down, and permutated version of a 30 second segment from the main theme. The piece is designed so that it has no definitive order, and the ten parts can play in any sequence (throw em on shuffle). Each of the ten parts makes use of temporal and spatial phasing issues in a manner that references both Steve Reich and acoustic architecture. With the use of pitch shifting each part is also able to represent a single note in the same way that many of LaMonte Young’s works do. The voice heard on parts 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9 are Barry Blesser who wrote the book Spaces Speak, are you Listening?.
